Bookcases and shelving units are super popular items to build, and not complicated but there are a few tricks to getting to look great and to stand up to years of use, and much of that depends on how the shelves are attached, and in this case, I am showing how to make a jig to use with the hand router that will give you perfect fit dados.

...oh, and yes, you could use a palm router in place of a full-size router ... just take you time in making the cuts so you don't put unnecessary wear on the router motor ...

There are many people who enjoy working with wood - sheet goods - like plywoods, medium, and high-density fiberboard, and more. If you select quality products, you get nice flat material, sometimes you can purchase it with already applied veneers such as Oak, Maple, Walnut and so on, and what's nice, you can cut it to whatever size you need, you don't have worry about grain matching during glue-ups, twisting and warping boards, running our of enough material to do the job, knots in the wrong places ... the list is endless.

I think my Oscillating tool is over 10 years old now, and I bet it doesn't have 3 hours of work on it, but I wouldn't have traded it for the world. I bought at the time I was installing new vinyl windows in my home and embedding them into the old aluminum frames so that I would not have to have the stucco siding re-done. It saved me thousands, the windows went in flawlessly and the whole reno easily passed the energy audit.

The oscillating tool was used to cut away the aluminum rails on the old windows so they were flush, right into the corners, so the new windows were a good fit going in and without it, I would have spent countless more hours trying to cut and trim that aluminum away ...
