This circular saw jig has been around for many and the first one I made was over 20 years ago, so it's time for an update, and with a twist, this new version is even better !!  I have not seen the adaption I am going to make so this appears to be a new version of an older tried and true circular saw jig. My biggest complaint with the original jig was I never seemed to have enough support on the start of a cut and sometimes my cuts were not a crisp as I would have liked them to be. But now I have a solution for that.

Track saws have become somewhat popular in recent years, particularly with finish carpenters who are working on job sites and often working with sheet goods, like plywoods and needing a way to make accurate cuts on them. Track saws are easy to move around and generally do a good job, but like always there are alternatives and this circular saw jig with the improved start position is a great alternative for only a few dollars.

I am surprised how many emails and notes I get from people who have had or arm disabilities, asking me for suggestions on how they can hold their tools easier. The people I hear from have everything possible you can imagine from arthritis and joint pain in hands and arms, others like me have carpal tunnel conditions in their wrist, some have injuries from work or home incidents that may be temporary or permanent, sports injuries ... the list goes on. Some of these I can help, others I cannot, but it always amazes me what innovative ideas others come up with to help them hold their tools more comfortably and safely.

Of course, there are many, many solutions, often easy ones like raising or lowering work surfaces like work benches, or even having small portable platforms to give yourself some extra height, sometimes something as small as 2 or 3 inches can make a huge difference.

I seem to have been working more with natural wood the past few years but have been thoroughly enjoying getting back to working with plywoods and MDF materials. I love how quickly you can make things from many of these double sided or single side plywoods. You just need to take a few minutes to plan your cuts, but when that is done, you can very quickly make some excellent furniture pieces.
