One of the things in woodworking that I am very passionate about are squares. In my early days of woodworking, unbeknownst to me, a couple of my squares were off by square by quite a bit and were causing me no end to problems and frustrations. I cannot tell you what a frustrating time that was for me. It wasn't until I purchased a decent quality steel square that I realized that not all squares are necessarily square.

Once I realized that my problem all along was probably my squares and not my machinery or the way I was setting it up, a whole new world opened for me.

A short time ago set up a finger joint bit on my wood router table to see how it worked, having never used it before. A number of people asked how it compared to other, less expensive finger joint bits, to which I had no experience, so I ordered one from Gearbest.com  and here are the results of that setup and testing.

This bit is quite a bit bigger and heavier than the last bit I tested and has much coarser teeth. In the world of finger joint bits, there are a variety of sizes and one size is not better than another, but different sizes would be selected for different kinds of work that need to be done. This coarser tooth would obliviously be used for larger pieces of wood in joint them together.

CA glues or Cyanoacrylate glues have so many different applications and things they can do, and the way to get the best use from them is to use a CA glue with the correct consistency for the job you are doing. CA glues come in 3 basic consistencies or thicknesses, Thin - which is very similar to water, Medium which is similar to a syrup, and Thick which is like a syrup that just came from the refrigerator. All of these glues will perform well but knowing where to use them makes a big difference.

The other thing that matters is how fast they dry, and Thin CA glues dries almost instantly, Medium takes a few minutes to dry and Thick can take several minutes to dry and a depending on where you are using these glues, they may require several hours or even overnight to harden to their strongest holding power ...

Mortise and tenon joints are among the most popular wood joints and have been in use in one way or another for hundreds, perhaps thousands of years. They can be made in a variety of ways, both by hand, by woodworking machine or a combination of both and give a strong joint that is well suited for many kinds of builds. In this video, I am making a self-centering mortising jig for the wood router.

Although I don't use this jig much anymore, it is a jig that I used extensively in the past and I liked it because it adapted to many different joints and sizes and was easy to use and gave good results ...

Of course like every modification, we all need to figure out things that work best and taking other peoples ideas and even changing them up a bit can make a huge difference in accomplishing something that may have seemed daunting.
