The Central Jersey Woodworkers Association (CJWA) is a growing group of woodworkers of various skill levels and interests, who meet monthly to trade ideas, share tips, and listen to various speakers. Past speakers have included professional furniture makers, including Frank Klausz, Jere Osgood, Frank Pollaro, Mario Rodriguez, Peter Tischler and Tom Volk, woodworking tool experts including Tom Lie-Nielsen and Graham Blackburn, semi-pros, hobbyists, boat builders, custom furniture craftsmen, finishers, and more. Various hands-on comparisons of equipment have been offered, and there are periodic group purchases of equipment, wood, tools and supplies.

The Lee’s Summit Woodworker’s Guild became “official” with the adoption of the Bylaws in April, 1993. The June 1993 meeting had 28 people in attendance and at the end of 1993 there was 51 paid members. By March 1994, they had outgrown their meeting room at Lee’s Summit Christian Church and moved to the Lee’s Summit Methodist Church. In March 2011 they moved to the Lee’s Summit Christian School.

Founded in 1983, the Guild was able to procure an old schoolhouse in 2006 and renovate it into a woodworking learning facility. The Guild is equipped with two SawStop cabinet saws, two large planers, two large jointers, an array of drill presses, band saws, router tables, and all manner of power and hand tools for Guild members to use in their projects. The Guild sponsors an annual woodworking show at the Hoover Library, and their toy maker group makes and donates thousands of wooden toys every year to hospitals and charity groups all over the country.

The AWG was founded in 1989, and has grown to approximately 135 members. The initial vision was to reach out to both amateur and professional woodworkers who are devoted to learning, teaching, practicing and expanding every aspect of woodworking. We have grown from there.
