I built a Jam chuck for my tailstock made from Ash that goes over a live center
and a handle for the tailstock travel made from Oak.
You can add a Face plate to it to the Headstock Jam Chuck just locate the center prior and drill a hole in both the Headstock Jam chuck and the Face plate and secure it together now take your compass and draw out the Diameter of the Headstock jam chuck.
Holes should be 3/4" in from the sides
Here are 3 methods for cutting the face plate:
#1 use a Craftsman Circle Cutter Router Base model #315.17400
#2 Cutting the Circles on a Band Saw
Band saw jig has a sliding dove tail
Or you can just attach the face plate to the headstock jam after rounding off the corners and such close to the out side circle and turn it on your lathe @ at 600rpm's
