Anyone who needs a cordless drill already has one ... the same cannot be said of impact drills because many woodworkers have not tried this somewhat new to the market tools. Until I got an opportunity to tryone for a couple of weeks I had no idea what I was missing. Incredible power for all those things I had been trying to force my poor old twelve volt drill to do.

Impact drivers are NOT DRILLS ... they are used fo tightening and undoing bolts and screws that most drills, even the big powerful ones will choke on. One example ... I recently purchased a new bicycle, it is a somewhat expensive road bike and it is a pain to keep the bike in the house but I am afraid to leave it outside as it is too easy to get stolen. I decided to use a long lag bold to fasten a chain to house beam that I could lock the bike up with. Never giving a thought I emerged from my shop with my trusty 13 volt (Makita) drill and proceed to try and drive this lag bolt into a 20 year old fir beam. After two inches it was either going to be me or the drill ... back I head to the shop to get a wrench, and along the way spotted the impact driver ... dummy me I thought ... back outside I could not believe the ease with which that lag bolt cruised into that 6"x6" beam. At one point I was afraid the bolt might snap off, but hold it did and now I have VERY secure place for my bike.
