"Ed" as he refers to himself, started in woodworking after a lengthy stint in the mechanics as a welder and technician who worked on motorcycles, cars, planes boats etc. One day something happened that changed his life, he saw a Router in a Sears store and he began to think about all the things he could do with it, and so, he bought it. After using the router for a time Ed began to realize that to do the kind of work he wanted he would need a new tool ... a lathe, if he wanted to turn out spindles.

Before long he was turning bowls, lamps and anything else that he could imagine. As he thinks about those early days he remembers there was lots of quantity, but the artistry had not begun to flow in his work yet, but who could blame him, his work was paying the bills and that was sufficient ... at least for a time. Then came the day that Ed wanted more from his turned pieces. To pursue his education he decided to travel to the US, and ended up in Raleigh, NC where he began work in a wood shop as an apprentice.

Ed still had an interest in woodturning and did this as a hobby, but he wanted to learn more so he enroled in a woodturning night school course at  NC State. While he was attending this class he met Rude Osolnick, who as things would turn out was instrumental in changing Eds direction and focus in woodturning. Ed began to look at woodturning as an art form and began to discover what could be done with pieces of wood and a lathe.

Ed returned to Peru where he set up shop as a professional woodturning artist, and to his delight, someone form the British Council in Lima saw some of his work and help arrange a showing of Eds work at the British Museum. As an accomplished turner Ed still has one goal he would like to fulfil and that is to assist in a woodworking symposium some time in the future, and I'm sure this will come to pass for him because even though there are many talented turner, there are few that have the ability to make their own lathes as Ed has done. Just another way of showing talents of this fine woodturner.
You can see more of his work in our gallery or at his site at: Artistic Woodturning
