| Cleats |
In closet and utility shelving, the wood members furnished to support the shelf. |
| Clip On |
A concealed hinge that allows you to attached the two parts of the hinge together by simply snapping them together. Makes finishing the doors a breeze! |
| Closed Coat |
A piece of sandpaper with a surface completely covered with abrasive particles. This type of paper tends to clog easily with sawdust and is generally not used for woodworking. |
| Coating |
Paint, varnish, lacquer or other finish used to create a protective and/or decorative layer. |
| Collet |
In a router, the sleeve that grips the shank of a bit. |
| Color Uniformity |
Ability of a coating to maintain a uniform or consistent color across its entire surface, particularly during the weathering process. |
| Colorfast |
Fade resistant. |
| Compound Cut |
An angled cut to both the edge and face of a board. |
| Concave |
An inward-curving shape. (i.e. a spoon) |
| Concealed Hinges |
This refers to any hinge that does not show from the outside of the cabinet. |
| Contact Cement |
Completely non-staining cement. Ideal for applying wall paneling and for covering counters, cabinets and table tops with both porous and non-porous surfacing materials ranging from linoleum to plastic laminates. |
| Conversion Varnish |
In finishing, a class of coatings that are tough and exhibit excellent resistance to household chemicals. |
| Convex |
An outward-curving shape. (i.e. a dome) |
| Cope-and-stick joint |
A method of construction raised panel doors where the tongues of the rails (horizontal) connect to the grooves of the stiles (vertical). |
| Coping (jig) saw |
Designed to make curved and other irregular cuts in wood, thin plywood, plastic, or light metal. It consists of a 'U' shaped steel frame with a thin, short blade. |
