| 270 Degree Hinge |
This refer to a hinge that allows the door a full movement of 270 degrees which allows it to open all the way to the outside side of the cabinet wall. This can only be achieved on a frameless full overlay cabinet design. |
| Abrasion Resistance |
Resistance to being worn away by rubbing or friction; related more to toughness than to hardness. A necessary quality for floor finishes, enamels and varnishes. |
| Abrasive |
Used for wearing away a surface by rubbing. Examples are powdered pumice, rottenstone, sandpaper, sandpaper, steel wool. |
| Acrylic |
A synthetic resin used extensively for exterior latex paints and some high quality interior latex paints. |
| Additives |
Chemicals which are added to coatings in small amounts to alter the physical or chemical properties of the finish. For example, certain additives can reduce the drying time of alkyd (oil-based) finishes. |
| Adhesion |
The ability of a coating to stick to a surface. |
| Adhesive |
A substance capable of holding materials together by surface attachment. It is a general term and includes cements, mucilage, paste, and glue. |
| Adhesive, Contact |
An adhesive which, while apparently dry to the touch, will adhere instantaneously to itself upon contact. The terms contact bond adhesive, or dry bond adhesive, are also used. |
| Adjustable Shelves |
Generally accomplished through the use of multiple holes with either plastic or metal pins to hold the shelves. Some metal or plastic shelf standards are still in use. Woodworker shall have the option of adjustment method unless otherwise specified. |
| Aerosol |
A product feature that uses compressed gas to spray the product from its container. |
| Air tank capacity |
Air tank capacity represents the volume of air stored in the tank and available for immediate use. The larger the tank, the longer the air tool usage in situations where the air tool requires more SCFM than the compressor can deliver. |
| Airless Spray |
A spray that increases the fluid pressure of paint by means of a pump that causes atomization with air, resulting in higher film build and little or no over-spray. |
| Alkyd |
Synthetic resin modified with oil for good adhesion to a clean surface and good gloss, color retention and flexibility. Slow drying. |
| Alkyds |
Oil based coatings used in a wide variety of protective coatings, such as floor and deck paint enamels, wall and trim paints, stains, and varnishes. |
| Alternate top bevel with raker (ATB/R) |
A design for a circular saw blade where four alternately beveled teeth are followed by a raker too to remove debris from the cut. |
