I have a table top that I inherited from my great uncle who made it, but it needs to be refinished. I can't tell if the top is an amber varnish or shellac. I tried dabbing a very slight amount of denatured alcohol on a rag ang wiping it. When I wiped it the top got slightly "sticky" but that was all. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I can try to answer any questions you have.
