I do both, I sharpen on a oneway jig for fingernail grinds, on a belt sander, elimanates the problem of the motor getting in the way

Everything else I do freehand

I do both, most of my tools are free hand, but I have a Crown 1/4 gouge that I cant get the right shape on, I also have another concern about using a jig, the price, most of the time if the little Crown needs to be re-gound I take it with me to woodcraft and they regrind it quick for me. After that I can get it to last a good long time buy just hitting it on the wet grinder a little bit. I guess if I was a bit more patient I could regrind the little fellow on the wet stone, but for 3 dollars at woodcraft, I cant complaine.
